A Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputy was captured on video punching a woman who had unleashed an expletive-laced tirade on a Metro bus in Bellflower.
The deputy is seen clocking the woman, who had taunted him by calling him a "big shot." Following the punch, the woman became even more agitated, threatened to sue, and resisted an attempt by four deputies to take her into custody.
The woman has been identified as 42-year-old Julie Nelson, who is homeless and has a history of mental illness. The deputies knew Nelson and were aware she had four convictions for assaulting a police officer, reports the Los Angeles Times.
The video was shot by Jermaine Green with his cell phone camera. Green, an Army veteran, had returned from serving six years in Iraq and Afghanistan. NBC Los Angeles initially posted the clip.
