Ballistics tests show the same gun was used to fatally shoot a police officer and one other person Thursday on the Virginia Tech campus, police say.
Virginia Tech Police officer Deriek Crouse, 39, of Christiansburg, was killed during a daytime traffic stop, officials said. Crouse was making what should have been a routine traffic stop around 12:30 p.m. Thursday when a gunman, seemingly out of the blue, took his life.
Police stopped just short of identifying a man found dead 30 minutes later in a parking lot a quarter of a mile away as the shooter.
