A Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department captain apparently took a convicted jewel thief out for golf tips, reports the Los Angeles Times.

Capt. Jeff Donahue escorted Frank Carrillo in a patrol Jeep to a hilltop golf course on Catalina Island last summer. Carrillo gave the captain tips on how to reduce his double-digit handicap.

Deputy William Cordero, who accompanied the two, filed a formal complaint, after his Donahue documented in the jail log that Carrillo never left the station.
