Mass. Cop Killed By Dump Truck

A Westfield (Mass.) Police officer died early Thursday after he was struck by a dump truck while directing traffic at a construction site.

Officer Jose Torres, a 27-year veteran, succumbed to injuries he sustained in the accident at 44 Pontoosic Road.

The accident happened around 7:30 a.m. The officer was taken to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, reports MassLive .

The line of duty death is the first for the agency, according to ODMP .
