Detroit Police officers face a 10% wage cut and increased medical expenses under a city proposal offered today that would supplant the department's existing union contract.

The City Council today discussed the plan that would save the city $102 million and apply to all city workers.

Joe Duncan, president of the Detroit Police Officers Association, told the Detroit News the city "should be investing, and not dismantling, its core and most essential service — its police department."
