The family of a fugitive who was shot and killed by New York Police Department officers after a three-mile pursuit through the Bronx has accused the department of causing his wrongful death.
In the lawsuit, the family of Orlando Santos accuses the department of using "excessive and unreasonable force" to apprehend him on March 26, 2011.
Officers fired 19 bullets at the unarmed 28-year-old who fled after officers attempted to pull over his Ford Expedition. During the chase, Santos tried to knock other cars out of the way and attempted to run over officers who were trying to apprehend him on foot, reports the New York Post.
