Ex-NYPD Cop Pleads Guilty To Rape
A former New York City police officer who was convicted in March of sexually attacking a schoolteacher at gunpoint in Upper Manhattan pleaded guilty on Thursday to rape counts that were left unresolved by a jury.
A former New York City police officer who was convicted in March of sexually attacking a schoolteacher at gunpoint in Upper Manhattan pleaded guilty on Thursday to rape counts that were left unresolved by a jury.
The former officer, Michael Pena, 28, had been convicted on three counts of predatory sexual assault and related charges and sentenced to 75 years to life in prison. His lawyer, Ephraim Savitt, said prosecutors had made it clear that they intended to retry Mr. Pena on the rape charges, on which the jury was unable to reach a verdict.
He said Mr. Pena accepted the plea to bring closure for his parents, who attended the trial, and for the victim.
