Suspect, Bystander Killed In Calif. Shootout
One suspect and a jogger caught in the crossfire were killed in a gunfight with Oxnard (Calif.) Police officers after a foot pursuit on Saturday night.
One suspect and a jogger caught in the crossfire were killed in a gunfight with Oxnard (Calif.) Police officers after a foot pursuit.
The incident began at about 10:10 p.m. Saturday when Oxnard officers attempted to make a traffic stop. The vehicle initially didn't pull over, and officers eventually stopped the car near Second Street and Grant Avenue.
For 10 minutes, the occupants of the vehicle didn't cooperate with officers—one talked on a cell phone and a second simulated a weapon with his hand. The driver accellerated, leading officers on a short pursuit. Occupants of the vehicle then fled on foot and began shooting at police.
Officers returned fire, hitting Alfonso Limon, 21, and Jose Zepeda, 24. Zepeda was in the car, while Limon was jogging in the area, reports the Ventura County Star.
