VIDEO: Deputy Rescues Driver In Head-On Crash

Clay County (Minn.) Sheriff's deputies rescued three people from their vehicles after a head-on collision north of Morehead on Wednesday evening.

Deputy Mark Empting used a pry bar to get a trapped 25-year-old driver out of her car. That driver, Brianna Pallotta, struck a car after attempting to pass another vehicle. Pallotta was likely intoxicated, the Minnesota State Police told KFGO.

A Hendrum couple—83-year-old Nolan Underlee and his 79-year-old wife Doris—were critically injured in the crash that occurred on Highway 75.

Clay County deputies arrived first to the crash scene and observed Palotta's car on fire. Deputy Mark Empting retrieved a pry bar from his patrol car and was able to pull her out of the car before flames reached the passenger compartment.
