The Trumann (Ark.) Police Department's chief said patrol car video showing a fatal shooting of his officer will be a lesson for current and future officers on the agency.

The Trumann (Ark.) Police Department's chief said patrol car video showing a fatal shooting of his officer will be a lesson for current and future officers on the agency.
Trumann officers will undergo additional training for nighttime traffic stops, Chief Chad Henson said at a Wednesday news conference when announcing the release of the footage, reports Arkansas Online .
The department released 20 minutes of footage from two police cruisers showing the April 2011 ambush of Officer Jonathan Schmidt.
The video shows Trumann officers pulling over the driver of a 2002 Hyundai. The video shows Officer Schmidt questioning Jerry Lard, who later jumps out of the right, rear passenger seat and opens fire.
Officer Schmidt then pushes Sgt. Corey Overstreet out of harm's way.
Lard can be heard taunting the officers and yelling, "What you got?" He then returns and shoots Officer Schmidt, who can be heard pleading, "Please don't shoot me."
Lard, 38, was convicted of capital murder and sentenced to death in July.
