Two Carrolton (Texas) Police officers were injured when a drunk-driving suspect struck their patrol vehicle during an arrest of an suspected drunk driver early Sunday.
The crash occurred at about 6 a.m. along the President George Bush Turnpike in the 2500 block of IH-35E N in the north-facing lanes. Three officers had responded in two patrol cars, arrested a drunk-driving suspect, and placed him in the rear of the car.
At the same time, dispatchers received a 911 call that a second possibly intoxicated driver in a black sedan was traveling north on IH-35E N. Moments after the call, the sedan struck the patrol car with the arrested subject.
Two officers and the two suspected drunk drivers were transported to the hospital for treatment. The officers have been released from the hospital. Both suspects are expected to be released. Charges for the driver of the black sedan are pending a complete investigation.
"This makes three Carrollton PD officers involved in collisions with intoxicated drivers in less than 36 hours," according to a statement posted on the agency's Facebook page. "We hope that this highlights the true dangers of drinking and driving as well as the dangers that our officers face on a daily basis."
