The family of deceased Glendale (Ariz.) Police Officer Brad Jones was about to lose its health insurance through the city one year after the 27-year-old father of two was killed on the job.
A change made by city officials in September, however, will extend the city's discounted benefits for the Joneses and other families whose breadwinners are killed on the job.
Cindy Jones and her children had been receiving free health insurance through the city under a state law, known as Harrolle's Law, that requires employers to pay for such benefits for a year after a law-enforcement officer is killed in the line of duty.
Brad Jones was shot and killed while helping a probation officer make an arrest in October 2011.
