A Melbourne, Fla., man who had slashed his father with a knife led police on a high-speed pursuit that ended when he lost control of the vehicle and struck a utility pole.

Melbourne Police officers used Stop Sticks to deflate the tires of the stolen 2010 Ford Focus driven by Michael Andrew Wease late Sunday following the assault, reports the Brevard Times.

Earlier that evening, Wease had stolen his grandmother's Focus. He told family members he was returning to the house, and police located him traveling south on Interstate 95. He exited and headed east on to Eau Gallie Boulevard.

Officers then used Stop Sticks to halt the Focus. Wease was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and arrested.
