Iowa Officer Killed In Standoff With Felon

A veteran Rockwell City (Iowa) Police officer was shot and killed early Friday by a barricaded suspect wanted on an assault warrant. Officer Jamie Buenting, 37, died after he was struck by a single shot.

Officer Jamie Buenting, 37, died after he was struck by a single shot from a home at 502 Pleasant Street at about 1:40 a.m. Officers had arrived at the home at about 1:15 a.m. with an arrest warrant for Corey Alan Trott. Officers made contact with the 32-year-old Trott, which led to the standoff, reports KTIV.

Trott eventually surrendered at 5:22 a.m. He has been charged with first-degree murder and remains at the Sac County Jail.

Trott has a criminal history that includes a four-year prison sentence for first-degree harassment, and a felony of intimidation with a dangerous weapon, reports the Des Moines Register.

Buenting has been an officer since 1999, serving the past eight with the Rockwell City PD.
