N.C. Deputy Wounded, K-9 Killed in Standoff

A 19-year-old Davie County, N.C., man was arrested Wednesday night after he was accused of shooting a deputy and a police dog during a standoff before surrendering to authorities.

A 19-year-old Davie County, N.C., man was arrested Wednesday night after he was accused of shooting a deputy and a police dog during a standoff before surrendering to authorities, the Winston-Salem Journal reports.

Deputy Chris Fleming was in stable condition today at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, and is expected to make a full recovery, the Davie County Sheriff's Office said this morning.

The dog, a Russian Shepherd named Gorky died about 1 a.m. today. He had been with the sheriff's office for five years.
