S.C. Man Gets 35 Years for Killing Police Dog
Deputies say McCreary was involved in an armed robbery in mid-December of 2011. He allegedly ran from deputies and in the process fired at them multiple times, hitting K-9 Fargo who later died.
A Midlands, S.C., man accused of shooting and killing a Richland County K-9 officer, pleaded guilty Monday, WOLO TV reports. Maurice McCreary, 24, was sentenced to 35 years for five counts of Attempted Murder and the Killing of a Police Dog.
Deputies say McCreary was involved in an armed robbery in mid-December of 2011. He allegedly ran from deputies and in the process fired at them multiple times, hitting K-9 Fargo who later died.
Fargo's partner and handler, Warren Cavanagh attended Monday's plea hearing and sentencing.
"There was a statement that was made, which is you're not going to get away with shooting at the police officers, you're not going to get away with killing a police dog," says Cavanagh.
