New York Trooper Dies in Training Accident

Trooper Ross Riley, 44, fell about 30 feet from a ledge into Wolf Creek during a training exercise, according to state police.

A New York State trooper died following a fall at Letchworth State Park Wednesday afternoon.

Trooper Ross Riley, 44, fell about 30 feet from a ledge into Wolf Creek during a training exercise, according to state police. "The other two troopers who were with him descended immediately, they performed advanced aid and life-saving measures, he was put into the stretcher and hoisted up to the top of the cliff,"  New York State Police Superintendent Joseph D'Amico told WHAM TV.

Riley was a member of a special operations unit that performs mountain rescues in addition to other missions.
