In a compelling act of bravery, a young Richmond, Texas, police officer raced to rescue a woman who had apparently chosen to sit on railroad tracks in the path of a thundering train.

Officer Ramon Morales, 27, who has been with the Richmond Police Department only 10 months, responded to a report of a woman sitting on the tracks at 1 a.m. June 22, the Houston Chronicle reports.

He arrived at the scene in the 100 block of Douglas just as the crossing arms were going down and saw the woman in the train's path.

Jumping from his squad car, Morales ran to the woman and dragged her off the tracks. As he moved backward toward his vehicle, pulling the sobbing woman along the ground, his dashboard camera recorded the heart-stopping episode.
