The Las Vegas community, police and family members gathered to say goodbye and honor Metro Police Officer Igor Soldo Thursday.
His flag-draped coffin led a procession of law enforcement around 10:15 a.m. as it made its way through the streets to the Canyon Ridge Christian Church for his funeral. Hundreds of officers took part in the procession and citizens stood on the sidewalks to witness the event and pay their respects, KLAS TV reports.
Soldo and Officer Alyn Beck were ambushed and killed on Sunday as they ate lunch at a pizza restaurant in northeast Las Vegas. Soldo leaves behind a wife, Andrea, and a young son, Logan, who will soon reach his first birthday, his parents, a brother and a sister.
Soldo was born in Bosnia and fled to the United States with his entire family during the Bosnian War. He lived in Nebraska before moving to Las Vegas in 2006 to realize his dream of becoming a police officer.
The funeral for Officer Alyn Beck, who was also killed in the ambush, will take place on Saturday morning at 9 a.m. at The Smith Center. The funeral will be carried live on Channel 8 and 8NewsNOW.com.
