A 33-year-old Stockton (Calif.) PD officer died Wednesday just weeks after he was seriously injured in a car crash while on duty, the LA Times reports.
Officer Scott Hewell sustained serious injuries on May 28, when the patrol car he was riding in veered from the road and struck a tree, said Officer Joseph Silva, a Stockton police spokesman.
Hewell was released from the hospital on June 6. He was recuperating at his family's home but was rushed back to the hospital Wednesday, where he died, Silva said.
An official cause of death has not been determined.
