The New York attorney general is introducing a statewide program on Monday that offers law enforcement agencies financial help with buying bulletproof vests.
Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman says the inVEST Partnership will provide relief to agencies hurt by federal spending cuts and unable to afford life-saving vests for their officers. The initiative comes as lawmakers in the nation's capital argue over a federal program that outfits law enforcement with such protection.
"Every day in communities all across New York, the brave men and women serving in our police departments put their lives on the line to keep our communities safe," Schneiderman said in a statement to The Journal News. "We have an obligation to do everything in our power to protect those who are sworn to protect us."
