A Salt River (Ariz.) Police Department officer died Saturday morning after he was shot during a traffic stop, reports azcentral.com.
Salt River police spokesman Detective Vicente Cendejas said the death of Jair Cabrera marks the first time that an officer in the community's police department was killed in the line of duty.
Cendejas said Cabrera stopped a vehicle around 3 a.m. He made contact with the three people in the car, but one of them got out and fired, striking the officer, Special Agent Perryn Collier of the FBI said.
