Video: Oregon Officers Baby-Sit Bear Cub
On Monday night around 8:30 p.m., a man showed up at the police department with the cub, said Myrtle Creek Police Chief Don Brown.

The Myrtle Creek (Ore.) Police Department entertained a special visitor recently – a black bear cub.
On Monday night around 8:30 p.m., a man showed up at the police department with the cub, said Myrtle Creek Police Chief Don Brown.
Myrtle Creek police “were a little surprised,” Brown told KGW TV. “We kind of tried to keep him confined and not bother him much.”
Although the man thought the cub had been abandoned, Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife said the cub’s mother may have been out hunting, and that black bears often leave their cubs for short periods of time.
Myrtle Creek police and ODFW officials spent Tuesday searching for the mother, but didn’t find her. The cub will be transferred to a zoo, safari or sanctuary, where it will be raised for a year and likely returned to the wild.
“He was cute,” Brown said. “But it’s not a good idea to pick up a bear cub, whether you see the mother or not. It’s just a dangerous thing to do.”
