Deputy's Widow Fighting Parole for Husband's Killer
The 1980 killer of a Winona County Deputy Investigator is up for parole on May 12. The deputy's widow is collecting written objections to his release.
The widow of slain Deputy Investigator John Schneider, of the Winona County (Minn.) Sheriff's Department is fighting the potential parole of her husband's killer, the Associated Press reports.
Relatives of John Schneider are collecting letters and emails opposing the release of John Kirch who was incarcerated after being sentenced to life in prison. He appears before a parole panel May 12.
Deputy Investigator Schneider was shot and killed on September 7, 1980, after he and two other deputies responded to a domestic disturbance at a mobile home . John Kirch opened fire with a .22 rifle and struck Schneider in the chest. Schneider had served with the Winona County Sheriff's Department for 22 years.
