VIDEO: No Charges Against Officer in Death of 93-year-old
A Robertson County Grand Jury decided former Hearne, Texas, police officer Stephen Stem will not face charges for the shooting death of 93-year-old Pearlie Golden, reports KBTX.
Golden was shot and killed by Stephen Stem on May 6 when he responded to a 911 call and she brandished her revolver. The city council voted unanimously to fire Stem. The Texas Rangers investigated the shooting and then turned their findings over to the District Attorney’s Office.
The case was originally supposed to be presented to the grand jury in August, but the hearing was delayed. Only 10 of the 12 grand jurors reported for duty. Two called in with conflicts and were excused. Nine yes votes are needed for an indictment.
