Video: Montana Deputy Killed in the Line of Duty

A Cascade County, Mont., Sheriff's Deputy lost his life in the line of duty on Thursday afternoon after he was hit by a vehicle on Highway 89 near Belt.
Sheriff’s deputies and Montana Highway Patrol troopers were in pursuit of a suspect at the time. The chase began in Great Falls and reached as far as Geyser in Judith Basin County, where the suspect allegedly turned around and headed back toward the city.
Dep. Joseph James Dunn, 33 years old, was apparently struck by the suspect's vehicle on the return leg of the pursuit. Dunn was transported to Benefis Health Systems, where he was pronounced dead, according to the Fergus County Coroner’s Office.
According to the Great Falls Tribune , Dunn was with the sheriff’s office for two years and five months. Born in Missoula to Jim and Linda Dunn, he was a Marine Corps veteran who served in Afghanistan. He is survived by his parents; wife Robynn; son Joseph II and daughter Shiloh; and two siblings.
Services for Deputy Dunn will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Pacific Steel & Recycling Four Seasons Arena.
