A fallen Lawrenceburg, Ind., police officer's grave has become the target of vandals.

Sergeant Tom Cochran died in the line of duty on January 26, 2005. This weekend, the Cochran family discovered that his headstone had been defaced, WKRC TV reports.

For Jo'nee and Tomya Cochran, it's hard to find the words to describe the level of disrespect displayed by whoever is responsible for spray painting the word "pig" on their hero's headstone. "There needs to be consequences, this is not acceptable,” said Tomya.

Not only did the vandals tag the memorial, they also covered Cochran’s picture. "It’s sad, and for our family to remember him every day for the last ten years and try to honor him, this is complete dishonor,” said Tomya.

Cochran died in 2005 when his patrol car hit a patch of ice and wrecked. He was responding to an emergency call. The headstone also bears the name of Cochran’s widow, Jo'nee.

The vandalism of Cochran's headstone is gaining attention on social media across the country. There is a growing reward for information about those responsible. If you have any information, you're asked to call the Dearborn County Sheriff's Office.
