Illinois Officer Dies of "Medical Event" at Roll Call

A 42-year-old Glenview, Ill., police officer died of a medical condition while on duty Saturday.

Officer Owen Masterton, a 19-year veteran of the Glenview force, suffered a medical event while in roll call at the Glenview Police Station, police spokesman Sgt. Patrick Schuster said Tuesday.

A spokesman for the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office said Masterton was at the police station when he became unresponsive.

He was transported to Glenbrook Hospital where he was pronounced dead Saturday at 7:37 p.m., the medical examiner’s spokesman said.

An autopsy was conducted Sunday to determine the cause of death. A medical examiner’s spokesman told the Journal & Topics results of tests to determine the cause of death are still pending.
