VIDEO: Intruder Shoots Missouri Officer in Chest After Killing Mother

Police say they are looking for a gunman who killed his mother while breaking into her home, then shot and wounded a responding University City, Mo., police officer, reports the St. Louis-Dispatch.

The gunman was climbing through a bedroom window of his mother's home at about 10 p.m., Det. Sgt. Fredrick Lemons said in a news release. The man shot into the home, hitting his mother in the leg. She was later pronounced dead at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. According to WKYC, police have identified the victim as 55-year-old Donna Washington.

The man, Major Washington, also shot at three University City police officers responding to the home invasion, Lemons said. One of the officers, a 5-year veteran of the department, was shot in the chest and was in serious but stable condition. His name has not been released.
