Police responding to an assault call in Cottonwood, Ariz., Saturday night shot two suspects, killing one of them, following an attack on several officers and a Walmart employee.
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, Cottonwood Police Department received a call about a Walmart employee who had been assaulted by one of the suspects just before midnight.
When officers arrived on scene, the suspects were in the parking lot and began to attack the officers.
One of the eight responding officers was shot in the leg, while seven others suffered minor injuries. A Walmart loss-prevention officer was also involved in the altercation in the parking lot, suffering a broken arm.
One suspect was shot and killed and the other was shot in the stomach. Seven more suspects were taken into custody, DPS says.
A witness told ABC15 the family had been camping out in the parking lot for several days. They have been booked as "john does."
