The death of a Warren County, Miss., sheriff's deputy has been ruled a work-related accidental death, reports WAPT.

Dep. Johnny Gatson, 58, died Tuesday after complaining of shortness of breath while he was at his home, Sheriff Martin Pace said. An autopsy determined that Gatson developed a blood clot from a leg injury he suffered in a minor car crash during February's icy weather, Pace said.

Gatson was recovering at home and expected to return to work in a few weeks, but he suffered a pulmonary embolism that resulted in his death.

Gatson was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and had served with the Warren County Sheriff's Office for two years, according to ODMP.com. He had previously served with the Canton (Miss.) Police Department and the Simpson County (Miss.) Sheriff's Office. He is survived by his wife.
