The death of a Warren County, Miss., sheriff's deputy has been ruled a work-related accidental death, reports WAPT .

Dep. Johnny Gatson, 58, died Tuesday after complaining of shortness of breath while he was at his home, Sheriff Martin Pace said. An autopsy determined that Gatson developed a blood clot from a leg injury he suffered in a minor car crash during February's icy weather, Pace said.

Gatson was recovering at home and expected to return to work in a few weeks, but he suffered a pulmonary embolism that resulted in his death.

Gatson was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and had served with the Warren County Sheriff's Office for two years, according to ODMP.com . He had previously served with the Canton (Miss.) Police Department and the Simpson County (Miss.) Sheriff's Office. He is survived by his wife.
