A Gilford, N.H., police officer is being hailed as a hero for saving two people from a burning home during Sunday night's snowstorm.
A Gilford, N.H., police officer is being hailed as a hero for saving two people from a burning home during Sunday night's snowstorm, reports WMUR.
Officer Curtis Mailloux has been on the force in Gilford for just three years. Around 11 p.m., he rescued an elderly couple as their home on Old Lakeshore Drive filled with smoke and flames.
Mailloux said there wasn't much thinking involved in the rescue – training, instinct and adrenaline took over. The officer knocked down the door, carried the man out of the house, then went back in and rescued the man's wife.
Mailloux said both people were disoriented and it wasn't clear if they would have made it out on their own.
All three were treated at a hospital for smoke inhalation.
