A McAlester, Okla., police officer was struck by a suspected drunk driver while conducting a traffic stop Sunday morning, reports the McAlester News-Capital.
McAlester Police Chief Gary Wansick said Officer Richard Bedford was recovering Monday morning. He will undergo health evaluations this week.
Bedford pulled over a vehicle a little after midnight Sunday morning. While he was conducting the stop, a man who police identified as Felix Tate III, 34, crashed a truck into Bedford's patrol car and hit Bedford.
"I heard the boom," Bedford told the News-Capital. "Apparently, he hit my car. I turned around and the truck was on me."
Bedford said he was at the stopped vehicle's driver's window when he was hit. He said he never lost consciousness but knew he was injured.
