Nebraska prison officials say the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution is under control after a weekend uprising that reportedly erupted over living conditions injured two prison guards and left two inmates dead and at least two more injured, reports the Journal-Star.
"All inmates are accounted for and the public is safe," new state Corrections Director Scott Frakes said at a late Monday morning news conference in Lincoln, Neb. "As of right now, it is under control of staff. It is tense."
In a news release, the department said staff regained control at 1 a.m.
The bodies of two inmates were found inside a housing unit at the maximum-security prison Monday morning. Their names have not been released and details about cause of death are not available.
Tecumseh prison public information officer Jessica Houseman said late Sunday night that both prison guards who were injured in the initial altercation were released after treatment.
