VIDEO: New Jersey Officers Pull Woman from Car Moments Before It Burns
Officer Mark Ehrenburg of the Kinnelon (N.J.) Police Department has been at the scene of many car crashes before, but the wreck to which he and his partner responded Thursday was one of their closest calls.
Moments before a rolled over Toyota Solara convertible became engulfed in flames, Ehrenburg and his partner, Officer Rickey Ferriola, cut the driver out of her seat belt and pulled her to safety.
"It was as close as close can get," he told NJ.com. "We got there in the nick of time."
The driver, who was listed in good condition at the hospital Friday, has been charged with driving while intoxicated, failure to maintain a lane of travel, failure to keep right, reckless driving and having an open container of alcohol in the vehicle. She was released on bail pending an appearance in municipal court.
