A Brevard County, Fla., deputy ambushed and shot multiple times during a prostitution bust Thursday night remained in critical condition Friday.
The wounded officer has been identified as Agent John “Casey” Smith.
The accused gunman was also shot when authorities returned fire, but his injuries were not-life-threatening.
"We are still very early in the investigation and we’re trying to put the pieces together of what took place tonight," Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey told WFTV. "It’s just crazy to me somebody would open fire on our deputies. They were clearly marked."
A woman in the home, Mary Ellis, 42, was arrested on prostitution charges and was being questioned by authorities.
