A Texas man is in jail with no bond after throwing chain saws at police during an hour-long, high-speed chase that spanned three counties and involved eight agencies, according to the Lufkin (Texas) Police Department, reports KTRE.

Officers say the incident began as a traffic stop by Lufkin police around 5:10 p.m. on a white Chevy truck driven by Richard Paul Kay, 27. Police say they tried to stop Kay for speeding on the west loop near Lotus Lane. Kay sped off from the traffic stop, and the officer noticed that his license plate didn’t look right, according to Lufkin PD.

Kay continued around Loop 287 twice at speeds of close to 100 mph. According to police, he did donuts in the median before heading north on U.S. 69 north to Alto, letting his passenger out of the truck in a field, then continuing.

The department says Kay also reportedly swerved at an Angelina County Sheriff’s Office deputy and threw chain saws, believed to have been stolen in a home burglary, at officers.

The chase came to an end around 6:20 p.m. after a trooper shot out a second tire and Kay’s radiator near Woodland Hills golf course.

After being taken into custody, Kay told officers he swallowed methamphetamine and prescription drugs. Police say a search of his truck uncovered items they believe were stolen.

No one was injured in the incident.
