Video: Undercover Alabama Officer, Suspect in Critical Condition After Shootout
The officer, who family members say was shot in the leg and lower abdomen, went into surgery this morning to have part of his lower intestine removed.

Arrest warrants have been issued against the man accused of shooting an undercover Mobile Police Officer several times this morning in Grand Bay, AL, reports WKRG.
Ryan Burkhardt, 32, of Mobile, suffered six to nine gunshot wounds in his exchange with the officer and is currently listed in critical but stable condition at USA Medical Center. He was targeted in an early morning operation for the possession of illegal firearms and crystal-meth.
The undercover officer, whose name is awaiting release, was shot two times in the altercation that authorities say was a sting operation gone wrong. The officer, who family members say was shot in the leg and lower abdomen, went into surgery this morning to have part of his lower intestine removed. He is currently listed in critical but stable condition.
After striking one officer in the abdomen, just below his vest, and in his lower thigh, officers traded more than 20 rounds of ammunition with Burkhardt, who took several rounds into a concealed ballistic vest before being subdued, reports AL.com.
"This was a very sophisticated criminal who had much the same armor and weaponry as our police units," Mobile Police Department Chief James Barber says.
