On Dec. 2, 2015, the Inland Regional Center was the scene of a mass shooting that left 14 people dead and 22 injured. With the suspects still at large, the San Bernardino (CA) Police Department (SBPD) had to move quickly to protect the community.

Armed with the suspect's name, the SBPD searched their investigative databases for more information. One platform, CLEAR – Thomson Reuters investigative platform for law enforcement to identify and locate individuals or organizations – returned a unique address. Undercover officers arrived at the address a short time later and saw the suspect and accomplice leave the residence. After a short chase, gunfire was exchanged, which led to the deaths of the two suspects responsible for the shooting at the Inland Regional Center.

The San Bernardino Police Department also directed a $5,000 donation, to be made on their behalf by Thomson Reuters, to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund.

"We thank Thomson Reuters for its continued efforts in the development of this kind of software that provides a dependable database for our investigators," said Chief Jarrod Burguan of the SBPD, during the ceremony. "I would also like to express my gratitude for their generous donation to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund. We look forward to the continuation of this partnership and all of the ways it is sure to help enhance the safety of our public."
