A suspect has been taken into custody in the shooting of a male Mesa County sheriff’s deputy in Pear Park this morning, the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed.
Police scanner traffic indicated around 12:10 p.m. that a suspect had been detained in the backyard of a home on Ol’ Sun Drive near 30 3/4 and E roads, and that deputies were bagging the man’s hands. Authorities were reportedly searching the neighborhood for a handgun, the Grand Junction Sentinel reports.
Sheriff’s spokesman Henry Stoffel said deputies were called to the 500 block of Fruitvale Court at 11:06 a.m. on a report of a masked man walking with a gun and heading south toward E Road. A deputy responded to the scene and was shot. He was taken to the hospital. His condition is unknown, according to Stoffel.
