Clovis, NM, police are searching for a man accused of shooting an officer in the leg late Monday night following a traffic stop, reports KRQE.
Clovis police say Officer Chris Caron stopped a man on a bicycle in the 900 block of Wallace St. for a minor traffic offense around 11:30 p.m. A warrant check revealed the man, 34-year-old Anthony Baca, had an outstanding felony warrant for failure to appear in court.
When Officer Caron attempted to arrest him, police say Baca fled on foot. The officer took chase, and when a TASER had no effect, police say Baca pulled out a gun and shot Officer Caron. The officer was treated for his wound and released.
Baca, who police have not located, is now wanted for assault with intent to commit a violent felony upon a peace officer; aggravated battery on a peace officer; and resisting, evading, or obstructing a police officer.
