A man suspected of shooting an officer in Huntington Beach, CA, before leading authorities on a high-speed pursuit was killed in a fiery crash in the Cajon Pass Friday morning.
The incident began when officers responded to a domestic violence call in Huntington Beach at about 12:15 a.m., said Officer Jennifer Marlatt with the Huntington Beach Police Department.
Officers attempted to contact a man involved in the incident when he got into a vehicle and drove away, Marlatt told KTLA TV.
At one point the man made a U-turn and then fired several rounds at officers who were following in the area of Bushard Street and Yorktown Avenue, Marlatt said.
One round fired by the suspect hit an officer's. He was saved from the potentially lethal attack by his badge and his body armor. He was treated at a local hospital and released.

The Colorado State Patrol, after analyzing its 2025 struck-by incidents, identified one area for improvement: using traffic cones to provide advanced warning before the cruiser's location. Here is the agency’s final data.
