Vallejo, CA, police, in conjunction with the Suisun City (CA) Police Department, announced Monday that a suspect who was shot after pointing an assault-style weapon at officers in a Vallejo Starbucks is the father of a 2-year-old boy who was shot in a Suisun City home, reports KCRA.

Suisun City police received a call about 3:30 p.m. Sunday that a child was shot in a home. The child was taken to a hospital in critical condition, police said. No one was arrested in connection with the shooting, but a person of interest left the house before officers could arrive.

A little more than five hours later, a man walked into a Starbucks on Lincoln Road in Vallejo and pointed a weapon at two Vallejo police officers who were taking a coffee break, according to Vallejo police Lt. Andrew Boidiu.

The man's weapon malfunctioned, and he ran out of the shop. The officers chased after him and when he began to manipulate his weapon, the officers shot him three times near Magazine and Meridian streets, Boidiu said.

The suspect was identified as Adam Powell, 41, of Suisun City, and the father of the 2-year-old boy who was shot in Suisun City. Powell was taken to a hospital in critical condition, police said.

Investigators believe the child's shooting was accidental, but are still looking into other possibilities.

After Powell was shot, officers found a weapon fixed with a barrel-type magazine that was holding about 70 rounds of high-power ammunition. He was also wearing body armor and had a handgun, officers said.
