VIDEO: Alaska Officer Seriously Injured in Shooting
A Fairbanks, AK, police officer was seriously injured in a downtown Fairbanks shooting early Sunday morning.
At about 12:01 a.m. Sunday, Sgt. Allen Brandt was shot several times while responding to a report of shots fired on 7th Avenue between Noble Street and the Steese Highway, according to Fairbanks police spokeswoman Yumi McCulloch.
Brandt, an 11-year veteran of the department, was flown to Anchorage for treatment for multiple gunshot wounds. The shooter took the officer’s patrol car and abandoned it a few blocks away, reports the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner.
According to the Fairbanks Police Department Facebook page, Sgt. Brandt is in stable condition in the hospital. According to the statement: "The extent of his injuries are not being released at this time."
"The suspect in question is still at large and is considered armed and dangerous," the department statement said.
