Two Long Beach, MS, police officers are on paid administrative leave after a child was left in a hot car and died shortly afterward Friday.

Hancock County authorities said a 3-year-old girl, identified as Cheyenn Hyer, was left in a car unattended Friday afternoon for “some time.”

The child's mother Cassie Barker, a Long Beach police officer, has been placed on administrative leave along with patrolman Clark Ladner pending investigation of the Cheyenn's death.

Officials are waiting for an autopsy report, but believe the death is due to the heat, WFMY TV reports.
