A Wichita, KS, police officer is in critical condition after he was run over on Tuesday by a stolen vehicle, reports KWCH.
The department says Wichita Police Officer Brian Arterburn, a 25-year veteran with the department, sustained injuries to his chest, abdomen, and brain during the incident. He underwent emergency surgery and currently is listed in critical condition.
Sgt. Nikki Woodrow with the Wichita Police Department says officers were in the 2100 block of S.Topeka monitoring a home. There was also a stolen vehicle and a suspect with several felony warrants.
When the suspect left the home in the stolen vehicle, he hit Officer Arterburn, who was on foot patrol.
A second officer fired a round at the suspect, but reportedly did not hit him. Police arrested 31-year-old Justin Terrazas Tuesday night in connection with the case. He was booked into the Sedgwick County jail for attempted first-degree murder and various other charges.
"Please continue your thoughts and prayers. We ask for everyone to respect the privacy of the officer and his family during this difficult time," said the department in a release.
