A 19-year-old man accused of firing a gunshot that injured two Detroit police officers Sunday night faces a slew of charges in connection with the incident, including several weapons counts, reports the Detroit Free Press.
Juwan Plummer of Oak Park was arraigned Wednesday via a video connection in 36th District Court in Detroit. He faces charges of intentional discharge of a firearm in a building causing serious injury, punishable by up to 20 years in prison, intentional discharge of a firearm in a building causing injury, punishable by up to 15 years in prison, felonious assault and four counts of felony firearm, prosecutors said.
Magistrate Charles Anderson III entered a not guilty plea in the case and set bond at $25,000/10%.
The shooting happened about 11:45 p.m. in the 20500 block of Lesure Street, when police responded to a burglary call. Plummer, who was at the home with his family, apparently mistook police responding to the call for home intruders.
One of the officers was hit by two shotgun pellets in his face and remains in the hospital and the other officer suffered an injury to his arm and has been released from the hospital, officials said.
