VIDEO: Detroit Officer Critically Wounded Responding to Burglary Call
There were three different burglary calls to the home throughout the day Sunday, police said. The caller reported someone was trying to break into their home. Inside the home was a mother, her 19-year-old son and a 14-year-old.

Two Detroit police officers were wounded in a shooting overnight on the city's west side.
One officer was shot in his face by a shotgun and remains in critical condition. The other was hit by shrapnel in the arm.
At about 11:45 p.m. Sunday the officers went to a home for a burglary call. That's when they were shot by someone armed with a shotgun inside the home.
There were three different burglary calls to the home throughout the day Sunday, police said. The caller reported someone was trying to break into their home. Inside the home was a mother, her 19-year-old son and a 14-year-old.
Police believe the 19-year-old fired on the officers, apparently not realizing they were police.
"Appears that this is an unfortunate situation," Detroit Police Chief James Craig said, adding that the "young man who fired the shot is in custody."
However, he was not under arrest at press time.
Craig told ClickonDetroit that he is “optimistic” that both wounded officers will recover.
