VIDEO: Off-Duty NJ Officer Shoots Intruder in His Home
An intruder was shot inside an off-duty police officer's home in Manville, New Jersey, early Monday.
Authorities say the officer confronted the alleged burglar, identified as 19-year-old Tyreek Cook, just after midnight inside his home and opened fire, hitting Cook in the chest.
Cook, who lives a few blocks away, was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick in critical condition.
The homeowner, whom authorities have only identified as an off-duty police officer, was also transported to a local hospital for examination of injuries sustained during the physical encounter and traumatic stress-related physical conditions.
Cook is suspected of committing and attempting to commit numerous residential and vehicle burglaries in the area. The investigation is active and ongoing. He is charged with third-degree burglary, ABC 7 reports.
