A Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer has died after suffering serious injuries Monday night when he crashed into a tractor on a public road in Saint-Bernard-de-Lacolle, in the Montérégie.
On Tuesday morning, the RCMP released a statement identifying the officer as Constable Richer Dubuc. He was a 42-year-old native of Joliette and a father of four.
He joined the federal police force in November of 2009 and was originally posted in Codiac, New Brunswick. Richer was transferred to the Integrated Border Enforcement Team at Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu last January, the police force said.
The accident occurred around 6:20 p.m., while the officer was responding to a call. Provincial police said the officer was traveling in an RCMP service vehicle at the time, the Montreal Gazette reports.
